Hallo Leute,

bin grade etwas verwirrt, dass mein Ubuntu meinen zweiten Monitor bzw. dessen Auflösung nicht erkennt bzw. nicht ändern will.

Die längere Erklärung:

Ich habe ein Dell-Notebook (links) und einen externen Monitor (rechts, 16:10-Auflösung - nicht wundern) dran per HDMI. Wenn ich das System boote, ist das Notebook als Primär definiert. Ich möchte aber gerne den großen Monitor als primäres Display.

Ich öffne als arandr, klicke den Monitor als primär, will die Änderung anwenden und dann kommt diese Feldermeldung:

"xrandr fehlgeschlagen: xrandr returned error code1: b'xrandr: cannot find mode 1920x1200\n'"

Selbes Problem auf der Kommandozeile:

Neustart war erfolglos (drei mal). Möglicherweise ist ein apt upgrade schuld. Ich weiß noch, dass ich zuletzt eins gemacht hab :-/

Hat von euch jemand vielleicht eine Idee?

😈 ...statt mit einer veralteten Distributionsversion herumzudoktern! Installiere gleich noch den HWE-Kernel 5.19 aus 22.10!

Ähm, Ubuntu 20.04 ist LTS und nicht veraltet?

Über das für und wider von LTS brauchen wir hier nicht zu streiten. Da gehen die Ansichten auseinander. Klar sollte sein, dass man mit neuer Hardware auch eine neue Version fährt. (Ist aber oft nicht klar, deshalb schreib ich das mal so hin).

Es hat zuvor ca. 18 Monate problemlos funktioniert.

Ich verwende schon immer arandr bzw. xrandr. In den Einstellungen habe ich keinen Menüpunkt "Anzeigegeräte". Liegt das an Cinnamon? Unter Einstellungen habe ich Geräte → Bildschirm. Wenn ich draufklicke, passiert nichts.

Ah, sorry. Mein Fehler: Ich habe meinen Monitor nicht per HDMI sondern DisplayPort angeschlossen. Gut aufgepasst!

Durch deine Angabe von „Ubuntu“ ging ich natürlich davon aus, dass du den Standarddesktop verwendest. Wenn du davon abweichst, ist das schon eine Erwähnung wert. Und wenn es unter Cinnamon nicht funktioniert wie es soll, liegt die Vermutung nahe, dass da etwas fehlt. Wenn du das beheben möchtest, sollte das IMHO in einem neuen Thema geschehen, sonst wird das hier ein Durcheinander.

Profilnamen hab ich mir in ~/.screenlayout/ angelegt und hatte die in der Vergangenheit auch regelmäßig verwendet für Büro/Homeoffice-Unterschiede. Ich hatte mir vor einiger Zeit mal aus ARandR das Profil exportiert, daher auch dieser Befehl, den ich eingangs mal geschrieben hatte:

$ xrandr --output eDP-1 --mode 1920x1080 --pos 0x120 --rotate normal --output DP-1 --off --output HDMI-1 --off --output DP-2 --off --output HDMI-2 --off --output DP-3 --off --output DP-1-1 --off --output DP-1-2 --primary --mode 1920x1200 --pos 1920x0 --rotate normal --output DP-1-3 --off

Logisch ist das veraltet. Dir ist schon klar, daß sich das aus Jahr und Monat zusammensetzt? Nur Sicherheitsaktualisierungen und nur für main und restricted werden seitens Canonicals versprochen. Alles, was an Neuem und/oder Verbesserungen seitdem gekommen ist - nicht in Focal (von HWE, Fx und Tb abgesehen).

Da macht man Licht ans Rad und installiert wenigstens 22.04.1 und gerade hier sinnvollerweise noch den HWE-Kernel aus 22.10. Erst dann, sollte das Problem noch bestehen, geht man dem weiter nach.

Und was würde das an der Fehlermeldung ändern? Wenn ich das in den Autostart lege, wird doch derselbe Befehl ausgeführt, nur zu einer anderen Zeit. Kann mir ja nicht vorstellen, dass die Ausführzeit etwas mit der Tatsache zu tun haben soll, dass die Anwendung die Auflösung nicht findet.

Eine Zwischenversion hält 9 Monate, LTS 2 Jahre. 22.04 ist die neue LTS. Es gehört zur Ubuntu Philsophie, daß innerhalb eines Releases die Anwendungen verschimmeln und da spielt die "Musik" für den Nutzer. Du hast übrigens DP und Optimus mit nouveau, da lohnt sich neue Software bestimmt. ☹

22.04 ersetzt den X-Server durch Wayland. Da hast du für dein Problem sogar direkt eine "Alternative" im Default. Das kann natürlich schief gehen!

5 Jahre ist für Firmen und Beamte interessant, die ihre Hardware im gleichen Zyklus entsorgen.

Jep, ich höre von meinen Kolleg:innen von Problemen zwischen Wayland und Zoom.

Hab den Fehler mittlerweile gefunden und das Problem taucht nicht mehr auf. Lucky me.
