Virtualbox legt den Rechner lahm

Juni 2008 21:30 Hallo, seit ein paar Tagen habe ich das Problem, dass mir Virtualbox, sobald ich ein Gastsystem gestartet habe, den kompletten Rechner lahm legt. Außerdem startet das Gastsystem (Windows XP) nicht. Ich komme noch so weit, dass Windows meldet, dass es nicht richtig heruntergefahren wurde und ob ich im Abgesicherten Modus hochfahren möchte. Danach bleibt das Fenster der Virtualbox schwarz und weder Maus noch Tastatur funktionieren. Auch wenn ich ein neues Gastsystem installieren möchte komme ich nur soweit, dass Windows ein paar Treiber läd und dann dasselbe. Hat da jemand eine Idee? Servus, Johannes

Zumindest ging es ja immer damit. Ich habe 256MB dem Gastsystem gegeben. Braucht Kubuntu auf einmal soviel RAM? Schönen Gruß, Johannes

Ich habe schon die verschiedensten Versuche gestartet, aber immer das selbe. Gestern habe ich nach dem Start einfach mal eine halbe Stunde gewartet und dann war - oh Wunder - Windows da. Die Maus ging zwar nur noch sporadisch, aber immerhin. Heute mit den 1024MB habe ich die Warterei noch nicht ausprobiert. Kann es Probleme geben, wenn man nur einen Arbeitsspeicherriegel hat und nicht zwei? Irgendwelche Einfälle? Servus, Johannes

V. 1.5.x hat eigentlich nie Probleme gemacht... 1.6.x halte ich für n bischen buggy (nur ne persönliche Meinung). Hast du über die Distribution installiert oder heruntergeladen? Ansonsten mal im VirtualBox-Forum fragen, das hat auf alle Fälle nix mit dem Hauptspeicher zu tun. Gruß, Holgi

VirtualBox loggt unter ~/.VirtualBox/Machines/<Name des Gastes>/Logs. Wenn Du nach dem "Hängen" einen Kaltstart machst oder die grafische Oberfläche per Strg+Alt+Zurück neustartest, könnte die Logdatei eventuell den Stand zeigen, bei dem der Fehler aufgetreten war. 2. Ist das Problem eher bei den Windows-Gästen oder beim Wirt? - "Damn Small Linux" herunterladen (Mini-Linux) und mal zu installieren versuchen? 3. VirtualBox OSE hab ich noch nie ausprobiert, sondern ich bin von Anfang an bei der "Standard-Edition" geblieben. Könnte theoretisch sein, daß die mitgelieferte OSE noch Startschwierigkeiten hat? 4. Wenn Maus und Tastatur hängen, hat das auf jeden Fall mit dem XServer des Wirts zu tun. Hast Du Visuelle Effekte, Compiz oder proprietäre Grafiktreiber "an" (die allerdings bei mir auch mit der VirtualBox und Windows-Gästen funktionieren, nur als Idee/Hinweis)? Nur meine 2 Cents, darauf würde halt ich vielleicht achten, und sorry! ☹

Wenn ich jetzt Virtualbox starten möchte, also das Programm Virtualbox und nicht das Gastsystem, dann überlegt KDE bisschen (ziemlich lange) und dann passiert gar nichts. Und so lange ich diese Problem nicht behoben habe, brauche ich mir auch keine Sorgen über das Gastsystem zu machen. Ist zwar nicht wirklich ein Fortschritt, aber ... Servus, Johannes

Juni 2008 22:19 nachdem ich (fast) alles ausprobiert habe und öfters mal alles neu installiert habe Leider ohne jegliche Rückmeldung - kann niemand reproduzieren! dann überlegt KDE bisschen (ziemlich lange) und dann passiert gar nichts Da hilft wohl wenig anderes als Quellenforschung zu betreiben und den tatsächlichen Fehlerursachen (-meldungen, wir suchen - neben den Umgebungsvariablen wie als geringstes Beispiel Versionsnummern - die tatsächlichen, zutreffenden Fehlermeldungen) auf die Spur zu kommen: 1. Irgendwas in den Logdateien? 2. Irgendwas Log-artiges in ~/.VirtualBox? 3. strace VirtualBox ? Solange Du den Fehler nicht reproduzierbar machen kannst, hast Du wahrscheinlich gar keine Chance auf eine Lösung. (Ich versuche gerade, Dir dabei zu helfen, danke.)

Das schaut ja schlimm aus, was ich da fabriziere. Und dann noch was anderes: Ich habe versucht DSL zu installieren. Ist das selbe Problem wie immer. Bei Deinem letzten Log scheint mir das hier relevant zu sein (Du selbst wirst die zwanzig Minuten wohl gespürt haben ...): 00:20:23.050 [...] 00:42:45.227 TM: Giving up catch-up attempt [...] Googlen danach bringt mich auf die Vermutung: Kann es sein, daß Du Ubuntu 64bit fährst und VirtualBox nicht mir Deinem Netzwerk zurechtkommt? (Und, was für ein Netzwerk ist das?) - Bin leider kein Spezialist hier, sondern hier (wenn überhaupt) nur dazu da, Fehler einzugrenzen. Bei VirtualBox.org gibt's ein Forum und auch eine Mailing-Liste. In der Mailing-Liste lesen garantiert Entwickler mit, die auch antworten, wenn das Problem genau spezifiziert, also reproduzierbar ist. Im Forum kannst Du vielleicht weiterführende Informationen erhalten, die den Fehler weiter eingrenzen. Ansonsten kannst Du auch pragmatisch versuchen, ob VMWare (einen Artikel gibt's über das Wiki, das rechts oben verlinkt ist) in diesem Fall für Dich funktioniert. Viel Glück und Erfolg!
