Guten Morgen, ich betreibe KUbuntu 20.04 auf einem Lenovo X201i. Der hatte bisher 4GB, was häufig zum Besuch des OOM-KILLERs geführt hat. Ein Kollege hat mir 2x8GB SO-DIMMs gegeben. Der Memorycontroller des X201i kann aber nur 8GB verwalten. Wenn mehr Speicher benötigt wird, crasht der Laptop. Wahrscheinlich, wenn die 'oberen' 8GB beschrieben werden. Wie kann ich über Kernel-Boot-Parameter bewirken, dass nur die unteren 8GB verwendet werden? Für eine 10J alte Maschine neuen Speicher zu kaufen, erscheint nicht wirklich wirtschaftlich, so dass ich gerne die 16GB mit einer Begrenzung auf 8GB verwenden würde. mem=8G oder memmap=08G@00G hat nicht geholfen. entweder kein Boot oder keine Grafik...

Experts, I run Kubuntu 20.04, stock kernel on a Lenovo X201i. I have 4G of ram and get frequent visits by the oom-killer. A co-worker gave me two 8G SO-DIMMs. Problem is, the X201i detects 16GB but can only use 8GB due to memory controller not supporting more ram. So, when the X201i starts using more mem, probably reaching the 8GB border, it crashes. Buying 2x4GB SO-DIMM for a 10 year old machine seems not too economical as the mem still costs aroung 40-50 Euros. Is it possible to prevent the usage of the 'upper' 8GB? I tried mem=8GB and memmap=08GB@00GB without success. I either get funny colors or no boot at all.
